Aug 3, 2015 at 22:43 comment added aparente001 @DaleM I need to understand what is legally possible so I can draft the community petition in a constructive way.
Aug 3, 2015 at 22:42 comment added aparente001 @bdsl I forgot to say, the irresponsible parties who are risking life and limb at this location are not going to go to court to dispute law enforcement's actions to keep them from going to that spot. What appeals to them about the spot is precisely the anarchy of it.

Aug 3, 2015 at 12:13 comment added aparente001 @bdsl Three to four weeks of closure would solve the immediate problem, and then we would have September - May to work on a more permanent solution.
Aug 3, 2015 at 12:12 comment added aparente001 @DaleM We need quick action -- we have less than two weeks left to solve this problem, before thousands of college students arrive and exacerbate it.
Aug 3, 2015 at 10:31 comment added bdsl Presumably it would be open to challenge through the courts at any time. I don't know the process in New York, but in England any police decision can in theory be challenged through judicial review. Of course the longer the cordon is kept in place the more serious the issue will seem to the courts.

Aug 3, 2015 at 4:50 comment added aparente001 I tried calling several last week and didn't make it past the receptionist. What type should I look for, and do you have any tips to get past the receptionist?
Aug 3, 2015 at 1:40 comment added Dale M You are really going to need to get professional legal advice on this - only a local lawyer familiar with the applicable laws is going to be able to help you on the exact steps you can take.

Aug 3, 2015 at 1:33 comment added aparente001 I like your logic, this is helpful. Does three weeks sound unreasonable? Can a citizen or a citizens' group seek the court order that you mentioned?
