In relation to this question - Financial responsibilities for Custodian of (minor) international student, I am in a situation where my wife has a good friend who runs a business. My understanding of the business is that he helps families looking to immigrate to Canada by sending their children to Canada in advance to study. As far as I am aware this business is completely legitimate and lawful.
What is asked: Sign custodianship documentation for an international student, and be "on call" for emergencies or various meetings (such as clinical visits, parent-teacher meetings, etc).
My Question: What am I actually legally responsible for after signing a custodianship document? Will I be required to pay for any trouble the student might get into (crime, healthcare, etc?).
It is also my understanding that the student would not actually be living with me - but would instead be housed somewhere near my home in an apartment/etc owned by the company (or by the parents). I believe I would be more like an emergency contact or sudo-parent.
