Individual developers have been required up to now to sign up for and get approval to use site-specific APIs for social media to search.

This requirement has been called into question by the recent hiQ vs LinkedIn decision. A very interesting datapoint in this regard is whether Google and other major search engines comply with the site's preferences to use their APIs, or whether they simply use brute force search and are approved to do so by tacit or explicit agreement.

In light of the decision, can developers now go ahead and crawl social media sites directly without using their APIs?
