When searching through the New York Department of State Corporation and Business Identity database, all information pages in the results have this note at the bottom:
NOTE: New York State does not issue organizational identification numbers
But at the very same time, each result has a DOS ID# (Department of State ID) that uniquely identifies the entity:
This strikes me as confusing and inconsistent. Does an "organizational identification number" have special significance that a DOS ID is not designed to convey?
