How might the legal system resolve court dates in a situation like the following?

"Johnny" (a movie star) has a defamation suit against his ex-wife "Amber" (also a movie star) in the tens of millions of dollars in the United States. Johnny also has a contract to shoot a movie in the UK from October 2020-January 2021.

The latest court date (in the U.S.) is January, 2021, but it was originally well before October 2020. Johnny wants to reschedule so that the court proceedings don't interfere with his contract.

Would the courts honor his request, based on his prior commitment? Does the court date give Johnny a legal excuse to violate the terms of his contract? Or is Johnny caught in a "Catch 22" type situation whereby he will be in contempt of court if he isn't in the United States in January, 2021, and in breach of contract if he isn't in the UK in January, 2021?
